Chapter 2

Disclaimer: I do not own the Power Rangers. Never have and never will, well maybe in my dreams LOL. Enjoy!

"Keep your eyes on the targets!" Captain Mitchell called to Kelsey and Joel. They were the first two to do target practice. Unfortunately the time they had spent off duty had affected them. They weren't hitting a single one. "That's enough for today." He turned to his son and daughter. "You two will be partners. Now show em how it's done." Dana and Ryan nodded.

Ryan quickly drew his blaster as the targets popped up. He blasted three right away and missed the forth. Dana only shot twice taking her time to aim. She hit both targets on the bulls eye.

"Yeah Dana!" Carter called. He smiled as he watched her move onto a new target. Dana had always been a good shot just not quick with her shots. She was the sharpshooter of the team.

"Angela, let's mix things up a little bit." Captain Mitchell said. Angela nodded and pressed a few buttons. Suddenly the targets began moving around and "attacking" Ryan and Dana.

Ryan recovered quickly and began fighting them off. Dana on the other hand had been more surprised and was knocked to the ground. Carter's fists tightened as he began to move to his fallen wife.

"Stop Carter." Chad grabbed his arm. "She'll be okay. Just give her a chance." Carter hesitated but nodded. He watched helplessly as Dana was trying to fight her way off the ground. One of the targets moved too quickly and hit her across the face. She didn't scream but she fell back down again. Ryan made it to her side. He held the targets off as Dana stood.

"Well sis, you think that we can finish these things off?" Ryan asked. Dana smiled and nodded her head. They worked together and soon the simulation stopped. Dana and Ryan joined the other rangers.

"Very good." the captain complimented. He was very proud of his two children. Ryan took after him, very brave and courageous. Quick to action, sometimes without thinking things through. Dana took after her mother. Sweet and Kind. She was brave, but many didn't see that in her. She always thought things through and did everything accurately and precise.

"Thanks Dad." Ryan replied as he kissed his wife. Kelsey wrapped her arm around his waist.

"Thank you Father, but I shouldn't have been caught off guard like that. If that were a real battle the others might not have gotten to me. That mistake could cost us everything." Dana said lowering her head.

"Dana you did fine. We are all a bit rusty." Carter reassured her. Captain Mitchell nodded.

Carter hugged his wife. He really didn't want her to be doing this, she shouldn't be here.

"No! It's not alright! What if we were attacked right now?!" She screamed as she pushed Carter away from her. Carter was shocked by her outburst, in fact all of them were. Carter saw tears in her blue eyes.

"Dana, what's wrong?" He asked. She shrugged him away again.

"I will not be the weak link." She said.

"You never were Dana." Chad cut in. She just shook her head. She wouldn't admit it to anyone, but she had been having these strange nightmares. Most of them ended the same way, the rangers lost all because of a mistake she made. She has let them all down.

"Dana, why would you think that you are the weak link?" Ryan asked. She turned her back on them.

"I'm not near as good as you all."

"Dana that's a load of bullshit!" Kelsey burst out. Dana whirled around.

"No it isn't! Carter is so brave and a great leader. Totally devoted to winning at all costs. Chad is the greatest fighter I have ever seen. Ryan is just like Carter. Brave and courageous. Kelsey, you are so courageous. You pull off lots of things I can't even try. And Joel, well Joel is the comic relief of the team."

"Hey!" Joel called out.

"Seriously, Joel's piloting skills have saved us all more than once. What good am I?"

"Dana without you we won't have the team." Ryan said.

"You can always get a new pink ranger." Dana mumbled. Carter didn't know what to say. Dana wanted to quit, this was what he wanted, right? He didn't want to see her walk away but at the same time he didn't want her to fight.

"Dana Elizabeth Mitchell!" Captain Mitchell yelled. Dana snapped to attention. "You don't think that I would have picked you as the pink ranger if I thought you would be the weak link now do you?" Dana shook her head. "You are very capable of being a ranger and you have proven that to all of us over and over again." Dana shrugged.

"Okay, so maybe I have. I just don't want to be the reason we loose." Dana replied. "Let's get back to training and forget about his whole matter."

"Alright Dana. Carter and Chad, you two are up." The two men nodded as they took their places out on the simulation field. The targets came up. They were steady as the two men practiced shooting. Then they began moving. Carter and Chad had them down in a short time.

"Well done you two." the Captain praised them. A beeping was suddenly heard. Dana recognized the sound.

"My beeper!" She ran to her bag and grabbed the beeper out. She took out her cell phone and dialed the number. "This is Dr. Grayson, I just received a page... What?! When?!... I'll be right there." Dana hung up the cell phone and looked to the group. "I've got to go in. They have victims from a three car crash. Can one of you give Carter a lift being as how I need my car?"

"I can give him a ride." Chad replied.

"Thanks Chad." Carter said. As Dana rushed off toward her car.

"No problem. Got a question for you."

"Okay shoot."

"When Dana was saying things that I’m sure was leading up to her quitting, why didn't you say anything? As her husband you should of been the first to speak up against that." The others looked at Carter, they too wanted to know.

"I...well...Damn! I guess maybe I kind of wanted her to quit so that she is safe." Carter replied.

"Dude she can take care of herself and you know that." Joel scolded him.

"I know but..."

"But what?" Kelsey said placing her hands on her hips.

"It's kind of hard to explain."

"Carter, she's my daughter. I don't want to see anything happen to her either, but she is very capable. She's been trained since she was little." Captain Mitchell explained.

"I've known Dana for a long time. We used to hang out when I was still a cadet in training. She is very capable, more so than she lets on." Angela cut in. "She kicked one guys ass when he wouldn't leave us alone. She is diffinantly not a damsel in distress."

"I know, I just have this bad feeling about this all." Carter admitted. *Should I tell them about my dream. It seemed so real.*

"Well, we've got time. Go ahead and explain." Ryan said.

"Promise you guys won't think I'm crazy or anything?" They all nodded. "Well I've been having this strange dream. I've had it like four times now. We're fighting a really tough demon and he gets us cornered. We want to retreat but if we do the city will fall. Ryan gets up to make one last attempt at the Demon. Ryan gets blasted and falls to the ground. We all manage to struggle our way over to him. Dana becomes enraged and pulls herself to her feet. No one can stop her, but she takes on the demon by herself. The Demon shoot Dana in the side. She let out a horrifying scream and demorphs. It made my blood run cold. The Demon laughs and disappears. I struggle over to Dana and find the wound in her side very deep and bleeding horribly. She died in my arms." Carter looked at the ground as that last image from his dream filled him mind.

"Carter, that was just a bad dream. That won't happen." Chad tried to comfort his friend.

"It felt so real. I could feel her body go limp, the blood on my hands. The pain in my body and my heart." Carter explained. "The last time I had a dream like that it really happened." Carter turned away from the team. Now they all understood, he was scared of loosing his wife.

"Don't worry man, we won't let that happen." Chad sympathized.

"I really hope you are right Chad, I really do." Carter replied.

Meanwhile...

"Damit! Stay with me!" Dana was screaming at her patient. She couldn't loose him, not without even telling his family he was here. "Don't you die on me!"

"Dr. He's gone." The nurse said taking Dana's hands and pulling her away.

"No! There's still a chance."

"No, he gone." Dana fell to her knees and cried. She had never lost a patient, so this was hard on her.

"Is... Is his.. family here?" Dana sobbed.

"No we are still trying to contact them."

"He was so young." Dana commented still kneeling on the floor. "I couldn't save him."

"Dr. You did everything you could. His injuries were too bad." The nurse responded kneeling in front of Dana.

"Anyone know what happened?"

"One survivor is awake. The police just left him." A male nurse replied from the other side of the room. Dana got up and walked out of the OR with determination. She marched herself into the survivors room.

"What happened out there?!" She practically screamed.

"We were attacked."

"By what?"

"Calm down, what's your problem."

"My problem is that your fifteen year old friend just died on my table!"

"Jimmy! No!' The young man cried.

"So tell me what the hell happened out there."

"It looked like some type of monster. He just came out of nowhere and sent some blasts into some cars. I think there were six maybe seven cars." he sobbed.

"Six or seven? They said there was only five."

"Let me think." He wiped away some more tears and closed his eyes. "There was mine and Tony's. That's two. The red and blue vans makes four. A little red pickup and white car."

"They only found five. There's still one car somewhere." Dana gasped. "Was the accident near a cliff or ledge or anything."

"Yeah," whispered obviously still shocked by the whole situation.

"And the monster, what did he look like?"

"The cops said I was crazy, they don't believe me. Why should you?"

"Because I am a ranger."

"You're a ranger and you couldn't save Jimmy?!"

"I couldn't" Dana cried. She knew she should have been able to save Jimmy.

"What kind of ranger are you if you can't save lives?" The young man snapped. Dana cried harder.

"I'm an okay dr. but as a ranger I might not be very good." Dana whispered to herself. "Now I don't think I am even an okay Dr."

"If you really want to know the monster was all gold and had horn that wrapped around his face. Now please leave me alone." Dana nodded as she walked back out of the room. Suddenly she realized who the young man had described.

"Diabolico!"
